1. Hyundai Creta
17,016 units, up 10 percent YoY
With a total of 17,016 units sold, the Hyundai Creta continues to reign as India’s leading mid-size SUV. This figure represents a 10 percent increase compared to the same month last year (April 2024: 15,447 units), despite a 6 percent decline from the previous month (March 2025: 18,059 units). Although expectations were high for increased sales following the introduction of the Creta Electric earlier this year, results have not met predictions. Nevertheless, the Creta starts FY2026 strongly as the top-selling vehicle.
2. Maruti Dzire
16,996 units, up 7 percent YoY
Just 20 units behind the Creta, the Maruti Dzire secured second place with wholesale numbers totaling 16,996 units. This represents a year-on-year increase of 7 percent (April 2024: 15,825 units) and a month-on-month increase of 10 percent (March 2025: 15,460 units). The fourth-generation Dzire, launched in November 2024, has emerged as the best-selling Maruti model in April 2025.
3. Maruti Brezza
16,971 units, down 1 percent YoY
Occupying the third position, the Maruti Brezza compact SUV recorded sales of 16,971 units, indicating a slight decline of 1 percent compared to 17,113 units sold in April 2024. In FY2025, the Brezza ranked fourth overall in utility vehicle sales with 1,89,163 units and positioned itself as the second most popular compact SUV.
4. Maruti Ertiga
15,780 units, up 17 percent YoY
The enduring Maruti Ertiga remains a favorite among buyers, continuing its legacy as India’s best-selling MPV for the last six years. In April, it sold 15,780 units, which reflects a 17 percent year-on-year rise. Last fiscal year, the Ertiga sold 1,90,974 units, earning its highest ever fiscal performance and securing the title of India’s fourth best-selling car in FY2025.
5. Mahindra Scorpio
15,534 units, up 5 percent YoY
Continuing to lead in Mahindra’s lineup, the Scorpio series achieved sales of 15,534 units in April, reflecting a 5 percent increase compared to the previous year (April 2024: 14,807 units). This represented 30 percent of Mahindra’s total SUV sales, which accumulated to 52,330 units last month. The Scorpio’s combined sales for FY2025 reached 1,64,842 units, placing it in the tenth position on the sales chart.
6. Tata Nexon
15,457 units, up 38 percent YoY
The Tata Nexon, once the brand’s best-seller, opened FY2026 strongly, selling 15,457 units, which is a remarkable 38 percent year-on-year increase (April 2024: 11,168 units). This performance not only positions the Nexon as Tata’s leading model for April 2025 but also establishes it as India’s second best-selling compact SUV for the month, contributing significantly to Tata’s overall sales.
7. Maruti Swift
14,592 units, up 256 percent YoY
The revitalized Maruti Swift sold 14,592 units in April, marking an impressive 256 percent increase from last year’s 4,094 units. This growth can be attributed to the transition from the previous generation model. However, month-on-month sales decreased by 18 percent (March 2025: 17,746 units). The Swift remains one of the sought-after models during this reduction phase.
8. Maruti Fronx
14,345 units, negligible YoY growth
Securing the eighth spot, the Maruti Fronx, sold 14,345 units, reflecting a slight increase when compared to 14,286 units in April 2024. This marginal growth suggests that Maruti Suzuki is optimizing inventory levels across its dealerships. In FY2025, the Fronx was recognized as the fifth best-selling SUV, with a total of 1,66,216 units sold.
9. Maruti Wagon R
13,413 units, down 25 percent YoY
Maruti Suzuki’s popular tall-hatchback, the Wagon R, experienced a decline in sales, with 13,413 units dispatched in April—a drop of 25 percent from 17,850 units the previous year. 13,180 units, down 6 percent YoY
