2025 British GP: The Race Restart
Race Resumed Due to Track Fluid from Espargaro-Morbidelli Collision
The initial race start at Silverstone saw both Marquez brothers crash and resulted in a collision between Franco Morbidelli’s Ducati and Aleix Espargaro’s Honda, causing fluid to spill on the track. Consequently, the race was red-flagged, allowing all riders, including those who had fallen, to rejoin for the restart. The race distance was shortened by one lap, with 19 laps remaining.
Fabio’s Victory Snatched Away by Technical Issues
The Frenchman Held a 5-Second Lead Before Trouble Struck
At the restart, pole sitter Quartararo launched impressively on his Yamaha YZR-M1 and swiftly took the lead. The Marquez brothers, having just crashed, approached cautiously. Jack Miller, Bezzecchi, and Zarco, all equipped with the soft front tire like Quartararo, seized the opportunity and positioned themselves in the top five.
Meanwhile, Quartararo built a significant lead of nearly 5 seconds over Miller. Although Bezzecchi and Zarco overtook Miller, who was unable to maintain his earlier pace as tyre grip diminished, Quartararo continued to race steadily ahead, showcasing a 4-second advantage over Bezzecchi’s Aprilia. Amid this unfolding drama, Francesco Bagnaia crashed out after struggling on his Ducati GP25.
As the end drew near and Quartararo appeared on course to break Yamaha’s winless streak, his ride height device malfunctioned, permanently lowering the rear of his bike. Despite his efforts to solve the issue by applying the front brake, Quartararo was forced to retire from the race.
Bezzecchi’s First Win with Aprilia, Zarco Continues Podium Streak
Bez Displayed Strong Performance Throughout the Weekend; Zarco Heads Honda’s Resurgence
Marco Bezzecchi, who inherited the race lead after Quartararo’s misfortune, maintained a comfortable gap to Zarco and clinched his first victory with Aprilia. Recently, the team and its signing Jorge Martin had faced turmoil due to his indecision about remaining with the Noale factory. Bezzecchi’s win should help restore confidence in the bike for Martin and put behind them the tumultuous events surrounding the 2024 World Champion.
Meanwhile, LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco, the leading rider within the HRC camp, finished second, marking his second consecutive podium finish following his surprising win at Le Mans.
Marc Marquez Extends Championship Lead Despite Challenging Race
Both Marquez Brothers Participated in the Restart
Fate favored the Marquez brothers, enabling them to rejoin after their crashes during the chaotic initial start. While Alex Marquez could not replicate his Sprint race-winning pace and finished in fifth, Marc managed to recover and secure the final podium position.
In the closing laps, Franco Morbidelli battled closely with Marquez, with the Italian appearing to have the upper hand at times. Ultimately, Morbidelli finished just ahead of Marquez in fourth place, marking the first event in 2025 where Marc Marquez failed to win at least one of the two races that weekend.

Marc Extends His Lead; Bagnaia Continues to Fall Behind
Despite a relatively unremarkable weekend by his own high standards, Marc Marquez still managed to extend his championship advantage over his brother, Alex. Following consecutive DNFs, Bagnaia has fallen further behind the Marquez brothers and is now closely pursued by his VR46 academy peer, Franco Morbidelli, who is currently in fourth place. The next race is set to take place at MotorLand Aragón in Spain on June 8.
