Kia Carens Clavis price vs Ertiga Rumion and XL6

Kia India has announced the prices for the new Carens Clavis variant, ranging from Rs 11.50 lakh to Rs 21.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as a more upscale alternative to the Kia Carens, similar to how the Maruti XL6 is a step above the Ertiga, the Clavis aims at those seeking a more luxurious MPV. Below is a comparison of the Kia Clavis’s pricing against its main competitors, including the Maruti models and the Toyota Rumion.

Kia Carens Clavis vs Rivals: Price Breakdown

Ertiga: The Most Budget-Friendly Option

The Maruti Ertiga is the most economical choice, with its petrol variant starting at Rs 8.96 lakh, followed by the Toyota Rumion at Rs 10.54 lakh. The base Kia Carens starts at Rs 11.41 lakh, marginally below the Clavis, which is priced at Rs 11.50 lakh. The Maruti XL6 begins at Rs 11.83 lakh. When looking at the higher-end prices, the Ertiga remains the most affordable at Rs 13.25 lakh, while the top variant of the Clavis stands at Rs 21.50 lakh due to its extensive powertrain options.

If you’re in the market for a fuel-efficient budget CNG MPV, the Ertiga still holds the title at Rs 11 lakh. However, if performance and swift gear shifts are priorities, the turbo-petrol Clavis DCT, starting at Rs 16.90 lakh, could be worth considering.

XL6: The Cost-Effective 6-Seater

The Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Rumion come standard with 7 seating options, making them the most cost-effective choices for larger families. For those who prefer a spacious 7-seater, the Kia Carens is a commendable option, although it comes at a slightly higher price point. The Maruti XL6, which only offers a 6-seater configuration with captain seats, is priced lower than the 6-seat version of the Carens Clavis. Still, the Clavis provides a versatile 7-seat configuration for extended passenger capacity.

Kia Carens Clavis vs Rivals: Powertrain Options

Diesel Powertrain Exclusivity

The Kia Clavis presents the most extensive lineup of 1.5-litre engines, and along with the Carens, is the sole MPV in this segment that offers a diesel engine; both Kias do not have CNG variants. With an output of up to 160hp and torque of 253Nm, the Clavis surpasses its rivals from Maruti and Toyota, which produce 103hp and torque figures below 140Nm. Moreover, the Clavis offers four transmission configurations, a clear advantage over the pair of options provided by its Japanese counterparts. However, the CNG variants from the Japanese trio boast impressive mileage, achieving up to 26.32km/kg ARAI, which is significantly higher than the Clavis’s best of 19.54kpl with the 1.5-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

*Intelligent Manual Transmission (Kia terminology) refers to a clutchless manual option.
