Detailed Performance Analysis

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki’s sales for May 2025 dipped to 135,962 units, down 5.6% from 144,002 units compared to the same month last year. This decline comes despite an increase in SUV and MPV sales, which rose slightly to 54,899 units while small car sales fell significantly.

Mahindra

Mahindra’s strong performance saw its sales soar to 52,431 units, marking a 21% increase year-on-year. This growth has allowed Mahindra to solidify its position as the second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India, comfortably ahead of its competitors.

Hyundai

Hyundai’s sales figures of 43,861 units in May 2025 fell short compared to the previous year, reflecting a decline of 10.8%. Despite this decrease, the manufacturer still managed to surpass Tata’s sales figures. The contributing factor to Hyundai’s standing was bolstered by export contributions of 14,840 units.

Tata

Tata’s wholesales dropped 11% to 41,557 units, causing a slip to fourth place in domestic sales. Month-on-month, Tata’s sales also decreased by 8.1%. However, the company did see a rise in its EV sales, which improved by 2% to 5,685 units.

Conclusion

The dynamics of the Indian passenger vehicle market are shifting, as Hyundai regains its footing in the competitive landscape while Tata faces challenges. This landscape continues to evolve, influenced by consumer preferences and manufacturers’ strategic decisions.
