Bajaj to launch a more affordable Chetak

Bajaj Auto is gearing up to introduce a new entry-level variant of the Chetak electric scooter in June. This initiative aligns with the company’s strategy to bolster its presence in the expanding electric mobility sector. However, there are concerns regarding potential delays due to a recent announcement from Bajaj about the possibility of rare earth magnet supplies running low by July 2025.

  1. Bajaj Auto has expanded its retail footprint to include 3,000 points of sale.
  2. The Bajaj Chetak consistently ranks among the top two selling electric two-wheelers each month.

Bajaj to Introduce a New 29 Series Variant

This New Variant Will Be Launched at the End of June

The upcoming variant will enhance the existing Chetak 35 Series platform, which was launched in December 2024. Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director at Bajaj Auto, highlighted that the Chetak brand has experienced impressive market share growth. The brand’s performance in the fourth quarter has positioned Chetak as a leader in India’s electric two-wheeler market.

“With the launch of the new 3503 variant at the end of May 2025, along with the anticipated release of a fresh variant in June — an upgrade to the successful and entry-level 2903 — the Chetak lineup will become very formidable. We foresee further expansions of this series in FY26 to target emerging sub-segments,” Sharma stated.

To support these initiatives, Bajaj Auto has enhanced its retail presence, boasting 310 Chetak experience centers and more than 3,000 sales points across the country.

CFO Dinesh Thapar mentioned that Bajaj Auto’s electric vehicle range has greatly benefited from cost reductions and production-linked incentive (PLI) programs, enabling the company to stay competitive as the market shifts towards more affordable options.
