
The Mahindra Thar lineup, comprising the 3-door variant and the 5-door Thar Roxx, has surpassed the significant milestone of 250,000 sales within the Indian market. According to data from SIAM, total sales from the Thar’s launch in October 2020 to the end of April 2025 have reached an impressive 259,921 units. The introduction of the Thar Roxx in September 2024 has considerably boosted sales, with this model now representing 45 percent of all Thar units sold in India.

In recent fiscal years, sales of the Thar brand have shown impressive growth. The data suggests that in FY2022, the first year with a full 12-month sales cycle, Mahindra sold 37,844 units. This number escalated to 47,108 units in FY2023, marking a 24 percent year-over-year growth, and reached 65,246 units in FY2024 with a 38 percent increase. In FY2025, sales surged to a record 84,834 units, bolstered by the launch of the new Thar Roxx.

Within just six months of its launch (October 2024 to March 2025), the Thar Roxx achieved wholesales of 38,590 units, securing the Car of the Year 2025 award. It accounted for a significant 45 percent of total Thar sales of 84,834 units, averaging 6,431 units monthly. Conversely, the three-door Thar saw its share decrease to 55 percent, with total sales of 46,244 units in FY2025, reflecting a decline of 29 percent from the previous year.

In summary, the Thar Roxx has gained traction at the expense of its sibling’s sales, while simultaneously attracting competition as well. Mahindra views the Thar Roxx as a pivotal addition, which is expected to continue thriving in FY2026. The two Thar models have kicked off FY2026 strongly, with combined sales reaching 10,703 units, reflecting a remarkable 74 percent increase compared to the 6,160 units sold in April 2024. This accounted for a 20 percent share of Mahindra’s total sales of 52,330 units for the month, compared to a 15 percent share in April 2024 when only the Thar 3-door was available.

Upcoming Facelift for the 3-Door Thar in 2026
In response to the sustained demand for the Thar Roxx, Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed plans to increase production capacity for both this model and the XUV 3XO by 3,000 units per month. Furthermore, the company, having surpassed the half-a-million sales milestone for the first time in FY2025, has phased out the convertible top variants of the 3-door Thar and is currently working on a facelift (codenamed W515) as a mid-cycle update for this five-year-old model.
