Lamborghini Temerario: A Close Look at the Huracan Successor

lamborghini temerario

With their unmistakable sharp, wedge-like design, Lamborghinis stand out, and this is also true for the latest model from the Italian automotive manufacturer, the Lamborghini Temerario. First unveiled at Monterey Car Week in August of last year, this successor to the Huracán has officially launched in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 6 crore.

Lamborghini Temerario Powertrain and Performance

New Twin-Turbo V8 Engine Reaches 10,000 RPM

Unlike its predecessor, which utilized an Audi/Lamborghini naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine, the new Temerario is a plug-in hybrid featuring an all-new, in-house-developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 alongside three electric motors. The total system power reaches a formidable 920hp, with the turbo-petrol engine alone generating 800hp. This powertrain employs a ‘hot-vee’ configuration, where the turbochargers are located between the cylinder banks, allowing it to rev all the way to 10,000 RPM. Lamborghini claims this makes it the highest-revving V8 engine currently installed in a production vehicle.

Combined 299 HP from Front-Mounted Electric Motors

Each of the three electric motors contributes 150hp. One motor is positioned between the engine and the dual-clutch transmission, working without an intermediate clutch to help counter turbo lag effectively, according to Lamborghini. This motor also serves as a starter and generator. The other two electric motors are mounted on the front axle, significantly enhancing the active torque vectoring system, which reacts more quickly than traditional mechanical setups, thereby reducing brake intervention for a more organic driving experience. These motors provide a total output of 190hp in fully electric mode and introduce a drift mode feature in the Temerario, equipped with three levels of yaw control.

High-Pitched Sound from the Flat-Plane Crankshaft

Lamborghini emphasizes the importance of carefully tuning the engine sound, with exhaust routing and mounts designed to optimize acoustic qualities. The new V8’s flat-plane crankshaft produces a distinctive high-pitched wail. At the launch, the engine was briefly ignited, and the initial reactions were very favorable.

Lamborghini Temerario Interior and Features

All-Aluminium Chassis Enhances Cabin Space

The Temerario moves from the carbon-fiber and aluminium framework of the Huracán to an all-aluminium spaceframe, delivering a 20% increase in torsional stiffness. This shift has resulted in an added 46mm of legroom and a 34mm increase in headroom, which is particularly helpful when wearing a helmet on track days. During a test seating, I noticed a gap greater than five fingers between my head and the roof. The storage area is also impressive for a supercar, as the 112-litre boot can accommodate two cabin-sized suitcases.

Interior Design Emphasizes Aviation Inspiration

The interior features well-defined cuts and angles that evoke a modern aircraft aesthetic. A visually striking red aviation-style flip-up toggle serves as the start/stop button, providing an element of drama, while the drive mode selector on the multifunction steering wheel is also highlighted in red. Inside, a luxurious combination of carbon fiber, leather, and microfiber harmonizes beautifully. The dashboard includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and two touchscreens—an 8.4-inch central display in portrait orientation and a slimmer 9.1-inch passenger screen. Customers are offered a choice of either 18-way adjustable heated and ventilated seats or optional carbon-fiber sports seats.

Lamborghini Temerario Exterior Design

Crafted at Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, the Temerario showcases the iconic wedge silhouette synonymous with the brand. A particularly striking aspect of this vehicle is the expansive open frontal area; in addition to the pronounced air intakes in the bumper, the hexagonal daytime running lights include air tunnels, and the sleek headlight units are recessed with integrated aero channels.

Motorcycle-Inspired Bumper Cutaways

The roof design features a central channel that directs airflow towards the rear spoiler, while the two side humps provide additional headroom for passengers. At the rear, glimpses of the V8 engine can be seen through small openings, although the hatch is only accessible at service centers. A panel on the right-hand side conveniently opens for fluid top-ups. The rear design includes a substantial central diffuser and notable bumper cutaways that reveal a large portion of the rear tires, suggesting an aggressive performance potential.

Increased Downforce Compared to the Huracan Evo

Lamborghini has claimed that extensive aerodynamic enhancements have led to a 103% increase in downforce relative to the Huracán Evo. This figure rises to 158% with the addition of the lightweight Alleggerita package, which effectively reduces overall weight by over 25kg through the use of lightweight interior components and carbon rims.

With bookings now available, potential customers can begin to specify their orders for the Temerario, with deliveries slated to begin early next year.

Insights on Lamborghini’s Hybridization

What was the rationale behind the hybridization of the Temerario, and are there any advantages or disadvantages?

We see no drawbacks to hybridization. For us, it signifies an enhancement of the vehicle’s capabilities by integrating additional features that lead to increased power, improved handling, and reduced emissions. The incorporation of electric motors allows for more nuanced torque management compared to traditional systems, resulting in quicker cornering. This is why we classify it as an HPEV, or ‘high-performance electrified vehicle.’

Customer Feedback on Hybrid Technology

How has the global reception of hybridization been from Lamborghini customers?

The feedback regarding the Revuelto was overwhelmingly positive, leading to it being sold out for over two years. Enthusiasts are clearly satisfied with the transition from the naturally aspirated V12. The Urus SE, which also features hybrid technology, has received favorable comments, especially with the stealth mode that allows for quiet electric driving—very useful in urban environments.

Future Strategy for Electric Vehicles

What does Lamborghini’s future strategy for electric cars entail?

Our electrification strategy, named ‘Direzione Cor Tauri,’ emphasizes our goal to be the best in the EV market rather than the first. Timing is critical when introducing new models, and we believe we are still some time away from fully electric vehicles. Our first all-electric offering is anticipated by the end of the decade, featuring a GT and 2+2 configuration. We recognize that our customers are currently interested in hybrids, marking an essential step toward complete electrification.

Projections for Lamborghini’s Performance in 2025

What is your forecast for Lamborghini’s performance in India in 2025?

Last year was a fruitful one for us, with 113 units sold in India. We expect a positive trend for 2025 based on current orders. India is viewed as a promising and strategic market, and we plan to have our entire model lineup accessible while providing exciting experiences such as the Lamborghini Esperienza Giro and collaborations with brands like Balenciaga and Tod’s.
