Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. in India has celebrated a significant milestone, marking a decade of operations at its manufacturing plant in Chennai. This special occasion was highlighted by the production of the facility’s 5 millionth two-wheeler, the Aerox 155 Version S.

Meeting Domestic and Export Demands

The Chennai plant has been pivotal to Yamaha’s production strategy since its inception, effectively serving both the local and export markets. The facility manufactures popular models including the RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi, and the Aerox 155 Version S, while also exporting notable series like the FZ line, the Saluto range, and the Alpha scooter. Currently, more than 30% of its total production is earmarked for export.

Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, emphasized the strategic importance of the Chennai factory within Yamaha’s global operations. He noted its contributions through a skilled workforce, integration of operations, and commitment to international quality standards.

Covering a total area of 177 acres—109 acres for Yamaha’s operations and 68 acres allocated to vendor partners—the facility implements a ‘One Factory’ approach aimed at enhancing efficiency and streamlining the supply chain. Over the years, the plant has undergone numerous upgrades to align with Yamaha’s strategy for premium products, particularly emphasizing small to midrange engine motorcycles and scooters.

As India’s emission standards progress, Yamaha has established the Chennai facility as a crucial global export hub, facilitating product deliveries to various markets, including Europe, Latin America, and ASEAN nations.
